Press has relied on smut and gimmicks and pop cult inanity since it’s inception. The foundational beginnings of journalism were tawdry chap books not high art. Journalism today cannot be represented by a snarky macro. It’s thriving as newspapers become media brands, and citizens become reporters. Viewing the past with a desperate nostalgia, forcing yourself to be disgusted by every artifact of the present is masochistically myopic. Revel in today, no one had it as good as you do right now.
